FAQ's
Does your jewelry pieces contain nickel?
Absolutely not. We are committed to providing jewelry that's not only beautiful but also safe for all wearers. Our jewelry is completely nickel-free, ensuring a comfortable and irritation-free experience for those with sensitivities.
Is silver magnetic?
Silver itself is not magnetic and does not attach to magnets. However, if an object that appears to be silver or contains silver attaches to a magnet, it is likely due to the presence of another material that is magnetic, such as nickel.
- Nickel is ferromagnetic, meaning it is strongly attracted to magnets.
- The presence of nickel in an alloy or as a base metal under silver plating can cause a seemingly silver object to be attracted to a magnet.
Is Silver with nickel legal?
Yes, silver with nickel is legal in the United States. Alloys of silver, such as those containing nickel, are commonly used in various industries for manufacturing jewelry, coins, utensils, and other items. There are no specific legal restrictions against the use of silver-nickel alloys. However, there are some considerations to keep in mind:
-
Labeling and Disclosure: If an item is sold as "silver" but contains a significant amount of nickel or other metals, it must be properly labeled to avoid misleading consumers. For example, sterling silver, which is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (often copper), is a standard and must be disclosed as such.
-
Allergic Reactions: Nickel can cause allergic reactions in some people. Because of this, certain regulations and guidelines may be in place regarding the use of nickel in jewelry, especially for items that come into prolonged contact with the skin.
-
Trademark and Purity Standards: Products labeled as "sterling silver" or "fine silver" must meet specific purity standards. Sterling silver must be at least 92.5% pure silver. Any alloy containing nickel would need to comply with these standards if labeled as sterling silver.
Overall, as long as the composition of the silver-nickel alloy is accurately disclosed and complies with relevant purity standards and regulations, it is legal in the United States.
Why a shorter sterling silver chain weighs more than a longer one?
Shorter length chains can sometimes weigh more than longer ones due to variations in production techniques, materials, and specifications across different manufacturing dates. Changes in the design process, metal density, or chain thickness from one production batch to another can result in weight differences regardless of chain length.
What is Rhodium Plating?
Rhodium plating is a process where a thin layer of rhodium, a precious metal from the platinum family, is applied to the surface of jewelry. It enhances the jewelry's appearance, durability, and resistance to tarnishing.
What is the thickness of the plating on your jewelry?
Our jewelry is plated with a layer that is 0.6 microns thick. This plating ensures a durable and long-lasting finish, adding both beauty and resilience to our pieces.
Does your jewelry contain Anti-Tarnish Treatment?
Yes, our jewelry is thoughtfully designed with anti-tarnish treatment to preserve its brilliance and shine over time. This special treatment helps protect against the natural tarnishing process, ensuring your jewelry remains vibrant and lustrous.
How do i prevent silver from tarnishing?
Silver tarnishes when it reacts with sulfur compounds in the air or with certain chemicals. To prevent or slow down tarnishing, you can take several measures:
Storage: Proper storage is essential. Keep silver items in airtight containers or storage bags to minimize exposure to air and humidity, which accelerates tarnishing.
Anti-Tarnish Strips: Use anti-tarnish strips or papers in storage containers or display cases to absorb sulfur compounds from the air and prevent tarnishing.
Desiccants: Add silica gel packets or other desiccants to storage containers to control moisture levels, which can reduce tarnishing.
Polishing Cloth: Regularly wipe silver items with a soft, non-abrasive polishing cloth to remove any tarnish buildup and maintain their shine.
Avoid Exposure to Chemicals: Keep silver away from household chemicals like bleach, ammonia, and chlorine, as well as cosmetics, perfumes, and lotions, which can accelerate tarnishing.
Avoid Rubber and Latex: Avoid storing silver items on rubber or latex surfaces, as these materials contain sulfur compounds that can cause tarnishing.
Use Clear Nail Polish: For items like jewelry, applying a thin coat of clear nail polish to areas that come into contact with your skin can create a barrier and prevent tarnishing.
Regular Use: Silver items that are regularly used and handled tend to tarnish less because the oils from your skin can help protect the silver. However, be sure to clean and dry them properly after each use.
Electrochemical Plating: Applying a thin layer of rhodium or other metals through electrochemical plating can create a protective barrier and prevent tarnishing. This method is often used for silver jewelry.
Professional Coating: Consider having your silver items professionally coated with a protective layer to prevent tarnishing. This can be particularly beneficial for items with intricate designs or difficult-to-reach areas.
By implementing these preventive measures, you can significantly reduce the rate at which silver tarnishes and keep your silver items looking shiny and beautiful for longer periods.
